the Stadium
Sorry it’s been so long, it’s starting to be the time when we are getting our finals so i’ve had that on my mind. Buuut, last Wednesday and Thursday we went and took a bus to Liverpool and Manchester. It was so much fun. We started off in Liverpool, home of the Beatles. We drove down Penny Lane singing the song and took pictures by the sign, and we saw a bunch of the places they sang about. I went to the Beatles museum and it was incredible, i learned so much and it had the coolest stuff, like George’s first guitar and their cloths. Then we went to the Cavern Club where they use to play (it is technically not in the same place as the Cavern Club they played as because it’s been moved but it looks exactly the same), it was pact and a band was playing their music, it was great.
The next morning we headed to Manchester, some of the girls and i walked around and saw their China Town and Arch. One really interesting part was we went to the sight of this huge IRA bombing, it had been at a Marks & Spencer’s ( a fancy cloths and foods store) no one died but hundreds were hurt. Now it has the biggest Marks & Spencer’s in the world, but the really cool thing is that this red post box made it through the bombing, it was the only thing left standing and it’s in all the pictures. It’s still there so we went to find it, it has a plaque. So we were standing talking pictures and this voice was like “is there something wrong with the post box?” and it was the older women, and we all backed up and let her male her letter, it turns out it’s still used as a post box. Then we headed to Old Trafford the Manchester United stadium. It was epic. It was so big and so technological. We got into the team locker room, and saw where Posh and Beckham first locked eyes. We also saw the press room and got to walk through the team tunnel like they do for games.
All and all it was a great trip, I liked Liverpool best because all the Beatles stuff was so great, i would go back for sure : )
This past Monday night i went to the Ceremony of the Keys, which is the nightly recital of locking up the Tower of London. They have been doing it every night for 750 years at 10pm. You aren’t allowed to take pictures of film the ceremony, in fact in never has been filmed but it was amazing. Our guard was really funny, all the guards at Tower Hill are picked after at least 22 years of honorable services in the military. Then they can work here until age 65, they live in Tower Hill too with their families. That’s probably the coolest part, that they live in a Castle (a childhood dream of mine). They start marching at 7 to 10 and go through locking both gates, they even have some scripted parts where one guard makes them all halt until they say they bring the Queen’s keys. Then as the clock was striking 10pm the bugle plays The Last Post. It was so cool.
On wednesday we went to a park with picnic food we had prepared, it was a nice day and we ate and played games. We played rounders this British game, there are four bases and you run even if you don’t hit the ball, but you only score if you get around in one go, other than that if you get around with out getting out you can get in line to bat again. I did really well at hitting, everyone was pretty surprised lol. I scored a lot for my team, it was a great day : )
